Our Engagement Story 4/26/03

Days leading up to Engagement Day

We began seriously talking about marriage about the first of April.
We went to look at rings one Saturday and found one that I really loved at Israel Diamond Supply. Scot wanted me to kind of start getting ideas for our wedding so that when he did ask, I would be able to plan it quickly. About a couple of weeks late, I was getting a little frustrated because it just felt weird planning a wedding when I wasn’t even engaged yet, so I told him that I wasn’t going to talk about it or do any planning anymore until he officially asked me.
And he didn’t want to ask me until he had the ring.

The Monday before our engagement day we were by the mall so I suggested we go look at rings one more time so that when he had the money he would know exactly which ring. Although we saw some other pretty rings, I continued to compare them with the one I saw at Israel Diamond Supply. While we were shopping around that day, Scot mentioned most of the money that he had saved for the ring was gone because he had spent it going to Arkansas when we went to see his family. After hearing this I was even more frustrated but I didn’t say anything. There was a part of me that thought maybe he was saying that about the money to throw me off, but I wasn’t sure.

After we were done at the mall, I suggested we go to Israel Diamond Supply one last time to see the ring again. When we got there I went to the case where the ring was and started looking for it. Scot kept asking me if I saw it and then asked if I wanted the lady to pull our paperwork so she could help us find it. The sales lady came to help look and eventually said that they must have sold it. Again, I thought maybe possibly this could be a trick but the more Scot and I talked the more I believed that the money and "my ring" was gone.

On Friday Scot and I were talking and I explained how frustrated I was about money and the ring, etc. He told me not to worry about anything and that God had told him when he needed to propose, where and with what ring. I felt better having talked to him about it and decided to let it go and trust God because being frustrated was not going to change anything.

Engagement Day

That next day (Saturday, April 26th) Scot and I went on a bike ride with our church motorcycle group to a Christian Motorcycle Rally (Quick Silver) in Tahlequah. Another couple that we knew from church, Hydie and Eric, went on the ride also. When we got to the rally Scot and I walked around and looked at the bikes and other stuff they had. After awhile of looking around, we ran into Hydie and Eric. Eric came up to Scot and grabbed him and says he wants to show him something and they start walking off. I just figured they were going to look at a bike so Hydie and I walked around. A little while later Eric returns and tells Hydie to come with him so she can meet someone. They take off walking and Eric turns back to tell me that I can come too. As I’m walking I start wondering where Scot is and if I should go find him instead of following Hydie and Eric. Then as we get closer to the stage I see Scot standing there. He looked a little nervous but I didn’t think much about it. I’m still following Hydie and Eric and Eric walks up on stage. Hydie said she wasn’t going up there so her and I walk to the front of the stage. At this time there are these two big huge motorcycle looking guys (they are actually pastors) begin introducing themselves and they tell us to come on stage. We get up there and I notice one of the guys has a microphone and Scot is standing next to him. At this point I’m wondering what we are doing up there but had no idea what was about to happen. Next the guy asks "are you ready for this" and he hands the microphone to Scot. Scot begins to talk about how much he loves me and how this is a kind of love he has never felt before. With tears in his eyes, he says how he never understood before how someone could say that they found the most beautiful woman in the world, but now he understands that because he has. He explains that he wants to be an evangelist and wants his wife to go with him. This whole time I’m standing there in disbelief wondering if this is really want I think it is. He then turns to me and asks me to marry him and pulls out a ring box from his pocket. He opens it and gets down on one knee to put it on my finger. I was shaking and could barely keep my hand straight for him to put the ring on. After he put the ring one, the pastor guy prayed over us and our lives together. It was AWESOME. I was completely overwhelmed in a good way and was completely speechless. I can guarantee there wasn’t a dry eye anywhere in the crowd. I honestly couldn’t believe it was happening and it still seems like a dream. For so long I had prayed and believed God for my soul mate and although there were times when I wanted to give up but I knew that I knew that I knew, that God was faithful and that he had a plan. As I see now, God knew what he was doing and every thing came to pass in His timing. I could not have asked God for a more wonderful man!!
