The Honeymoon Your Time Together

The Honeymoon

In the Middle Ages, mead, a fermented drink made with honey (the symbol of fertility, health, and life) was drunk by the bride and groom for thirty days—the cycle of the moon. During this period the couple stayed hidden from their parents and friends, the mead no doubt loosening their inhibitions and getting the marriage off to an auspicious start. – Excerpt taken from Peggy Post’s "Emily Post’s Wedding Etiquette."

Often the happy couple plan the honeymoon together; sometimes the groom and his family plan the honeymoon and surprise the bride, however the plans are made, the honeymoon is a loving time, a time to turn all attention to one another.

Where you go and how long you stay are influenced by many factors. Plan early, soon after you are engaged. Schedules and money need to be incorporated into the plans. Acquiring passports and getting immunizations must be accomplished considerably advance.

When you have an idea of what days you can be free of all other obligations, and you know about how much money is available, go to a travel agent. Tell them the things you like to do and they will help you plan a trip that fits your dream. They also know about great deals that are not advertised to the general public, and have other ideas that may help you with costs.

Remember that the first day or two after the wedding you may feel like taking it easy and focussing on each other after spending so much energy achieving all your plans. Now, enjoy relaxing together.
